Where can I buy a non-ikea slipcover for my Ikea sofa?

Casey M asked:

I have heard of BEMZ, but don’t want to spend that much and I don’t like Ikea’s slip cover replacements either. I’m wondering if anyone has found a nice fit from a slipcover from jcpenney, kohls, etc? I have the Ektorp 3-cushion sofa. I’m just wondering if there’s been any luck elsewhere from ikea & bemz?
I meant more like, what store sells a good slipcover specifically for ikea couches? I have a million places around here that sell slipcovers, but I want to know which one will work with my ikea ektorp sofa

Furniture Toronto Cushions

If you have t cushions on your furniture, such as your couches or loveseats, you may be in a quandary as to where to find t cushion slip covers. You can get these at several different outlets, including online.

T cushions are usually those that are fitted to the ends of the sofa. They are shaped like the letter “T” and can be difficult to find. You can get slip covers for these cushions by measuring the cushion itself.
You can get custom covers to fit them perfectly by ordering them from a custom designer. The entire sofa will be covered with fabric and the cushions will all have custom fittings. There will also be a fabric skirt around the bottom.

You can also find these covers pre made. There are several outlets online that can offer you pre-made covers. Purchasing pre made ones is usually a lot cheaper than getting them custom made.

They also come in a variety of different fabrics and colors as well as patterns. You can really give any room a whole new look by using slip covers on your furniture. And because they are relatively inexpensive to buy, especially online, you can get more than one set. If you want, you can change your them depending on the seasons.

If you get standard covers and have t cushions, you can tuck and fold the extra fabric around the cushion just like hospital corners on bed sheets. This will likely have to be done often as you will be displacing the slip covers when you sit on the furniture, but it can work.

Finding the perfect slip covers has never been easier as there are an assortment of different stores that sell these items as well as online retailers. Years ago, you could only get slipcovers if you had them made or ordered them from a catalog. Today, you have a myriad of choices, even when it comes to more difficult to find them for such shapes as the t cushion.

As all sofas and love seats are different sizes, you need careful measurements whenever ordering slip covers to insure that they will fit. With t cushions, you can make a graph, but they need to be measured accurately so that a slipcover will fit snugly. You should leave a couple of inches of give for the excess fabric in your measurements so that you have room to work with when putting the cushions in the covers.

Save Your Sanity: Use Slipcovers

Too many people don’t think about slipcovers when it comes to redecorating their home, yet slipcovers are an inexpensive tool that not only protects but also renews the loo of your furniture.

If you’ve spent several hundred dollars on a furniture suite for your living room, getting exactly the right color and fabric you wanted, you might wonder why on earth you’d want to hide that perfection with slipcovers.

Well, the answer is simple. Accidents happen. It’s better to strip off a removable slipcover and throw it into a washing machine, then have to re-upholster or replace the damaged fabric on one of the pieces of furniture of your perfect living room suite.

Because slipcovers are easy to put on and take off, there’s no need to have them on all the time, of course. Many people reserve them for certain occasions – for example when they are entertaining a group of kids during a birthday party, or on a Sunday for a football party.

In the past, slipcovers consisted of either plastic or vinyl, and they were ugly. Not only that, but a great many people left them on their furniture all the time! That’s no longer necessary today, of course.

Fabrics

There’s no need to buy slipcovers in plastic or vinyl today. You can get slipcovers in any fabric that exists, from cotton to chenille, from denim to damask, from leather to suede.

Designs

Slipcovers don’t just come in demure white or other solid colors. They come in floral patterns, in geometric patterns, even in plaids. They come in themed patterns – sports, holidays, and so on.

The Fit

Most people don’t want it to be obvious that they have slipcovers on their furniture, they want it to look as if the material on that furniture is what came with it originally. And with fitted slipcovers, this is easily achieved.

Slipcovers come in a variety of sizes, not to mention shapes, to fit all manner of chairs, couches, divans, futons, and even ottomans, and if you can’t find a slipcover that will fit your particular piece of furniture, you can always order one custom-made.

New or Renew

Slipcovers, therefore, are used not only to protect the original upholstery of your furniture, but also to give a new look to old, faded upholstery, so that you don’t have to go to the expense of re-upholstering it.

More than that, slipcovers are used in situational relief – to brighten up a holiday or birthday party, for example.

And if you’ve got a bunch of old, mis-matched furniture, the easiest way to make them look like a matching set is to buy a set of matching slipcovers for them!

Slipcovers – truly the workhorse of interior design.
