Do you have any creative ideas to give an upholstered chair a makeover?

lakat asked:

It is a simple, off-white canvas livingroom chair. It has a lot of stains so something needs to be done. Unless it is very tight fitting, a slipcover is not really an option because my son would pull it off all the time. The only ideas I have are 1. painting it somehow and 2. applying iron-on patches in some sort of pattern. It doesn’t have to look fantastic becuase I am probably going to relocate the chair to the playroom. Any cool and cheap ideas?

Looking For a Chair Cover Rental? San Diego Has What You Need!

No matter what you are looking for in a chair cover rental, San Diego rental companies have what you need. Decorating a venue for a special event also includes decorating the chairs with covers to make the overall appearance one of elegance and luxury. It doesn’t add much additional cost to your decorating budget for chair covers. The typical cost of this rental is about $2 per chair.

Take a look at the different materials available in chair cover rentals. San Diego (http://www.magicalpartyrentals.com/rentals/chaircoverrentals.html) rental locations offer a range of fabrics for these covers, such as:

•The Regal chair covering is made from fabric that has a light texture and is soft and smooth to the touch. You don’t need to have the extra sash with this design because it looks really elegant without any additional details. This fabric is also well-suited for use with plain table linens.

• The Brocade design is the choice of many for chair coverings for a wedding. It is also the common choice for upscale banquets and dinners. The fabric does not have a floral print, but it does have a slightly raised texture that has a very luxurious look and feel.

• You may want something plain that will also provide you with an elegant ambiance. For this choice in chair cover rentals, San Diego companies have a sash that adds to the look of the chair and takes away from the plain look of the fabric.

If this element of decorating for an event is something new to you, you can avail of the advice on chair cover rental San Diego specialists can provide for you. The design of the cover should match the style of the chairs used at the location you choose for your event.

The covers are available in rounded and square tops to suit a wide variety of chair styles. You only have to look at before and after pictures of events to see how this detail can add to the decorative effect you want to achieve.

When it comes to colors in chair cover rentals, San Diego decorators at these agencies will help you select the one that goes best with your overall color scheme. They also have a list of the popular colors for the year if you want to choose something from this list. For 2008, for example, the popular color choices in chair covers were:

• White

• Black

• Brown

• Gold

• Silver

• Shades or red, green, burgundy, purple, pink, and blue

The choice of materials when it comes to chair rentals, chair cover rentals (http://www.magicalpartyrentals.com/rentals/chaircoverrentals.html), or seat covers is also quite large. Choose from organza, satin, taffeta, chiffon in addition to regal, brocade and plain.

At various times of the year, you can avail of specials offered by companies providing chair cover rentals. San Diego locations also have showrooms that you can visit if you want to see and feel exactly what the chair covers can add to the appeal of your event. Adding a sash to any of the covers does have an extra charge, but you can save money by deciding to do the set up work yourself.

In less than 40 minutes you can have the covers on 100 chairs when you are working alone, so you can deduct a lot of time from this task if you have helpers. You can also pay an extra fee to have the rental agency take care of this chore for you.

What to Look for When Buying Dining Chairs

Dining chairs are an important feature of any dining room. Central to the functionality and usability of a given dining area are the table and chairs from which family interaction and meals can be enjoyed, and making sure that the chairs you buy are designed to last can be both tricky and critical to ensuring you can maximise enjoyment from your dining room for both yourself and your family. So what should you be looking for when you next buy dining room chairs, and how can you best be sure that what you’re buying is of a suitable quality to last in your dining room?

Firstly, understand that the scope of available dining room chairs out there is tremendous. From antique, oak chairs and tables through to fold down, metal seats there are simple loads of different types of chairs out there, all of which will require their own individual testing methods to determine whether or not they are suitable for their role. Also bear in mind that whilst it is important to check things out before you buy, you do have legal rights in respect of your purchase which can help you out should things go untimely wrong.

As a general starting point, quality can be derived from the upholstery of the chair. After all, most chairs are constructed of a frame, padding and upholstery, and with the padding concealed (hopefully), that doesn’t leave too many other starting points. Upholstery is usually neat on the front facing sides of the chair, but the underside can tell quite a different story. A good quality chair will be well finished on the underside as well as on the upper sides, and it should look to be firmly and tautly attached to the frame. If it’s not, this is probably a good sign to stay away.

Next, turn to the frame itself. This is usually only really identifiable by reference to the legs, and even still there is a possibility that these are a separate piece to the frame. The most crucial part to inspect is where the leg joins the seat. You are looking for a solid finish and a strong bond between these areas – preferably the unit will be one piece and so no bond will be required, however where the legs are joined separately it is important to make sure that you are satisfied with both the craftsmanship and the way in which the two major pieces have been bonded together.

Buying dining room chairs can be an anxious experience for the first time buyer or for someone who doesn’t really understand what it is they’re looking for. However, there are a number of straightforwards ways you can implement to give yourself a better standing when it comes to purchasing all types of furniture – particularly chairs for dining rooms and living areas, such as examining the upholstery and the finish as well as the craftsmanship to help better gauge whether what you’re examining is a quality piece of work.

Where can I buy a non-ikea slipcover for my Ikea sofa?

Casey M asked:

I have heard of BEMZ, but don’t want to spend that much and I don’t like Ikea’s slip cover replacements either. I’m wondering if anyone has found a nice fit from a slipcover from jcpenney, kohls, etc? I have the Ektorp 3-cushion sofa. I’m just wondering if there’s been any luck elsewhere from ikea & bemz?
I meant more like, what store sells a good slipcover specifically for ikea couches? I have a million places around here that sell slipcovers, but I want to know which one will work with my ikea ektorp sofa
