Ready made slipcovers have come a long way. You may be able to find your grandmother’s old slipcovers from the 1950’s lurking in the attic, but who would want to? The new ready made covers available come in a variety of colors and fabrics your grandmother could have only dreamed of back then.

You can use the slipcovers in new and interesting ways. One idea is to get swatches for fabrics that look like they would complement each other. Then, choose two that seem to harmonize or contrast beautifully.
The thing that makes this idea different is that you can order your sofa cushions in a different color than the overall slipcovers you have ordered. You put the main slipcover on the sofa, and then add the contrasting cushions. This makes an interesting visual image.

I covered my sofa with a burgundy slipcover (with gold pillows ) and since I have so much burgundy color in the room anyway, I bought a gold colored slipcover for the loveseat. (with burgundy pillows on it) Now that I’ve already done it, I’m wondering if I should have done the loveseat in the burgundy also. I’m no Martha Stewart….what do some of you think? My walls are gold and I have a lot of burgundy colored tapestries on the wall…curtains are burgundy also. Thanks
